About Me:
I live life to the fullest and love every little lesson life has thrown at me. I'm pretty easy going and know exactly what I want out of life. I can be a million different people from one day to the next, so "mysterious" is quite a trait of mine. I'm always up for the next adventure! I continue to discover myself each day and the more I come to realize how comfortable I am in my skin, I find beauty in every little niche and corner.

THE PATH OF ONE GUERRILLA - GuerrillaSoul

When I first read Tila’s description about joining the EGP, I was immediately intrigued by her cause. I joined because in the 27 years of my life, I have learned and continue to learn from every lesson life has thrown at me. “I’m learning to live as my Soul and not my Body.” Yes I know, deep and esoteric, but simply put, it is through these life experiences that my cause is to help empower women with awareness, self worth, and a deeper understanding of themselves. I found it fitting to go by the name GUERRILLA SOUL. Although Tila's decision to disband the group and give up on her dream and vision for the Elite Guerrilla Posse, I have forged on to continue the vision along with the rest of my EGP Family, to make a difference and change in this world. To first understand where we are going, we must understand where we’ve been, so let me begin.

I’m a 5’1” Filipina, martial artist that trains in Silat (Indonesian art), Kali/Escrima (Filipino art), JKD (Bruce Lee’s Method), and Muay Thai. The curriculum at my school is a blend of the 4 arts and is taught to various law enforcement such as the Navy Seals, US Air Marshalls, and Police Officers. (I will refrain from mentioning my school’s name in order to protect the privacy of myself and my teachers; please contact me for more information). My school is mainly a male dominated school, and I am one of the handful of women that has stuck it out and made it to the Senior Level. Although our school is the main branch, we have affiliated sister schools all over the country and worldwide: Ohio, Florida, New York, Virgina, France, Italy, Spain, England, and Germany. Because our school is Mecca, the headquarters, I’ve been fortunate to have touched hands and trained with various instructors, students, and guys of all shapes and sizes during our annual Summer and Winter Camps hosted here. Earning their respect in a male dominated art has been a 5 year, on-going process, but the rewards that I reap from training are evident in the minds of other females that I am able to transform. I’ve been slammed on the hard concrete floor, thrown across the room by 200 lb. guys, and have been bruised repeatedly from defensive knife drills. Although it sounds brutal, to put into perspective, it’s a lot more calm and tame in a controlled environment, compared to a real life attack scenario. Luckily, there is a woman’s class separate from the regular curriculum at the school as well, where only the practical applications that work for women are focused on.

We have health, car, and dental insurance. Why not have Life Insurance against a world filled with violence? At the women’s seminars we’ve hosted, 99% of the women walked away empowered and smarter about their environment. When women first show up to the seminar, most are timid and shy about actually training to hit something. It is our nature to be nurturing, caring, and not violent about anything. But by the end of the seminar, the women are filled with excitement and energy from the things that they have learned that day. Yes, there are other arts out there that you can train in and not to discredit any other them! Each art is just like a person: they each have their own strengths and weaknesses, and what works and doesn’t. I have been fortunate enough to have found a school that teaches a curriculum that is best for practical applications if ever in a confrontation.

A few months ago, a close friend of mine from the school, along with her 6 year old son, where brutally attacked by a PCP induced, meat cleaver wielding mad man. Although her son did not survive the attack, my friend survived multiple slashes to her face, arms, a cranial fracture, broken bones, and severed fingers. This crime was the worst crime any county has ever experienced; straight out of a slasher/horror film! As a testament to the arts we train in, it was her training at the school that saved her life. Just 2 days prior to the attack, we were ironically paired together and I told her, “We’re training hard tonight since you haven’t been in class lately.” It was that same knife drill that was still fresh in her mind that has given her another day to breathe. It still makes me sick to my stomach to think about that fateful night, but it serves as a reminder as to how precious life is, and that tomorrow is never promised.

It is through this background that I have tried to paint an image for you, that I have gained humility, a spiritual teacher, an artistic nature, and a passion for life. I am an evolving soul that has seen and been through rough times just like any other person. I continue to learn from my past experiences, and take every lesson life throws at me as a stepping stool for bettering myself and the world around me. As a martial artist, I have embraced a spirituality that calms my mind and quiets my soul, in order to try and listen to what the universe has to offer. I am a guerilla in my own right, always going against the grain, and never taking the easy road. This is how it has been my whole life. I guess this is what the universe had in store for me, who knows. If I can instill just a "spark" of knowledge on how to empower/enlighten oneself, whether it be through the martial arts, a conversation, or simple smile, then I know I have done my job! What we do with our time on earth is what matters most. I will continue to train and educate myself so that I can pass along the knowlege I have about my culture, the arts and music that encompass it. I will strive to help Filipino and Asian Americans gain more recognition and exposure in the mainstrain, as well as support the goals of my other EGP Family Members. Although we may sometimes find ourselves alone physically in our struggle, we are never alone spiritually in our journey to find the answers!
